The Columbia University School of the Arts Visual Arts Program presents the 2023 First Year MFA Exhibition in collaboration with the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Art Gallery at the Lenfest Center for the Arts. This exhibition encompasses work by the 27 artists who will complete their first year of the Visual Arts MFA Program May 2022. Curator Amy Sadao notes, “Developing new challenges, directions, and processes is part of an artist’s training. The Columbia MFA Class of 2023 stands out for the sheer number of risk-taking artists showing their best.
Columbia’s Class of 2023 could be expanding what we think of when we think of photography, of painting, of sculpture, and of film/video. With a breathtaking attention to craft and detail, they are grounded in conceptual- and research-driven work.”
