Serra Victoria Bothwell Fels
Bio: Serra Victoria Bothwell Fels (b. 1982 in Knoxville, TN) makes site-intruding installations that often embed into existing architecture with sculptural outcrops that sit somewhere between folklore and sci-fi, an exploration of the seams between the real and the imagined and how one becomes the other. Originally trained as a social psychologist at Stanford University, her architecture-of-becoming investigates institutional boundaries as materials, space as fulcrums, and community as activators. Bothwell Fels received her MFA from Columbia University and has shown internationally, including The Palais de Tokyo (Paris), The Clocktower Gallery (NYC), Pioneer Works (Brooklyn), University of Wisconsin (Oshkosh), and the Smack Mellon (Brooklyn). She has been based in Brooklyn for nearly a decade and is represented by Catinca Tabacaru Gallery (NYC).
