Cameron Fraser
Bio: Cameron Fraser builds unique acoustic instruments that are controlled electronically. His instruments echo the Aeolian harp, the band organ, the hydraulophone, the calliope and the player piano. Today microcontrollers take the place of the piano roll and solar panels replace steam players. Generative systems often collide with natural phenomena in his work. Water, wind, sun, leaves and skin are all conduits for musical expression. Out of the veil of noise and entropy, musical ideas are coaxed. Rhythm, timbre and pitch coalesce into ideas that are ordered and recurring. Generative systems highlight a world of surprising musicality when given voice through tuned intonation. Cameron’s instruments and compositions take advantage of this little-known secret.
