Gina Malek
Bio: Gina Malek (b. Rochester, MN) creates portraits that project the intimacy of hidden bodies using a multitude of mark-making languages to highlight their presence. The paintings are concerned with how people are seen and represented -- most notably women, the elderly, and those along the margins of society. The result is a body of works that converge upon ideas of identity and the impermanence of memory. Malek lived in Texas, Michigan, and Indiana, before moving to New York to earn an MFA in visual arts at Columbia University. Since graduating in 2015, she has exhibited work in New York, Chicago, Santa Fe, Thessaloniki, Greece, Basel, Switzerland and Berlin, Germany.
